Thorson — 80 years old

Jane Thorson, of Fort Dodge, and Mesa, Ariz., will celebrate her 80th birthday on March 7.

Her family includes Dr. Eric and Wanda Thorson, Jefferson City, Tenn.; Rachel and Marty Eger, and Jody Castor, all of Fort Dodge. She has 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson. Husband Rus Thorson is deceased.
Jane Holt was born March 7, 1933, in Fort Dodge. She attended Carpenter School and South Junior High. In 1951 she graduated from Fort Dodge High School, became the first Miss Fort Dodge, and married Russell Thorson. She has been active in music all her life. She was featured vocalist with a number of big bands in her teens, played cello in The Fort Dodge Symphony, sang in the Fort Dodge Civic Glee Club and choir at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. In the 1960s, she and husband Russell formed the Jane Russell Band. Together with their children, they made their living playing dances in Iowa and Arizona for nearly 30 years. She has a home in Mesa, Ariz., and spends summers in Fort Dodge.
