The Iowa Central women won by 20 points on Saturday, but the contest was a lot closer than the final score indicated.

The Tritons (19-8 overall, 10-4 ICCAC) earned a 58-38 victory over Iowa Lakes (8-21, 4-11) inside Hodges Fieldhouse.

"It was a very gritty performance,'' said Iowa Central head coach Craig Carlson. "It felt like a three- or four-point game most of the contest.''

Both squads struggled in the first half as they connected for a combined 17 field goals and a 24-24 halftime score.

Iowa Central jumped out to an 18-8 lead after the Lakers failed to get on the board until the 13:50 mark, but Iowa Lakes clawed their way back. Carla Barrera was a threat from three-point range, connecting on four of six tries. Barrera hit a tying triple as time expired in the first half.

The Tritons had an answer in the second half, as they hit three treys and didn't allow the Lakers to attempt one.
