The Webster County Board of Supervisors approved the budget for fiscal year 2014 during their regular meeting Tuesday.
The board approved the $36,139,077 budget and $12,902,000 in property taxes which includes slightly less revenue than fiscal year 2013, Webster County Auditor Carol Messerly said.
"We expect revenue to be less because we are spending down capital projects for the LEC; we expect to have that done in 2014," she said.
Messerly said property taxes saw an increase of about 3 cents per $1,000 of taxable property for a rate of $6.53 per $1,000 in property located within the city limits of Webster County communities. Rates are approximately $3.52 per $1,000 for unincorporated rural areas of the county for a total levy of $10.05 per $1,000 of taxable property.
The board also approved amendments to the 2013 budget ending June 30, increasing Department 99 Capital Projects appropriation to $1,340,000, increasing roads and transportation by $140,000 and decreasing roadway construction by $330,000.
Salaries for elected officials were approved for the county attorney in the amount of $92,131, auditor, recorder and treasurer at $58,677, sheriff at $78,273, county supervisors $34,697 and supervisor chairman at $35,477. The board also approved the employment of Derek Christie as Webster County sheriff deputy at a salary of $40,901.46 effective March 11.
In other business Webster County and Midas Council of Governments received three bids for pre-demolition asbestos surveys for five flood damaged properties set to be demolished this year. Bids were received in the amounts of $3,575 from Ebins Inspection Service, $3,950 from Cardno ATC and $10,875 from Impact 7G. The contract will be extended to the lowest bidder, Ebins Inspection Service, pending they meet all FEMA inspection certifications and requirements.
