DAKOTA CITY - The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors approved a $1.43 million amendment to the current budget Monday.
"We do one or two of these a year depending on how the year goes," said County Auditor Peggy Rice.
Much of the increased spending - $647,600 - is carryover in roads and transportation, with an additional $705,500 carryover in capital projects such as bridges and culverts, County Engineer Paul Jacobson said.
New items include $65,000 for a cold storage area for the Bode shop and $60,000 for a new roof for the Dakota City shop.
The result will be lowering the ending fund balance on June 30 from $2.5 million to $814,474.
The updated ending fund balance should have little impact on the 2013-2014 budget passed by the board last week, Rice said.
The majority of that is secondary roads projects which are paid for through a separate fund, she said.
There are few major budget changes from this year to the next, the biggest being an increase of about $100,000 for secondary roads.
"Last year's countywide levy was $6.16, this year it is $6.06. Levies were down in the general basic fund by 5 cents and the mental health fund by 5 cents," Rice said.
According to Rice, the county's adjusted valuation is $588 million, up from $562 million a year ago.
Total budgeted expenses for 2013-2014 are $10.6 million.
Union employees will receive a 2.75 percent wage increase and a 2 percent increase in health insurance. Elected officials will get a 3.5 percent increase.
The ending fund balance June 30, 2014, is estimated to be $3.9 million.
