With spring in the air, the 2013 Home & Garden Expo should be the destination of choice this weekend for anyone with even the hint of a green thumb or a desire to spruce up the family home.
This annual event begins at the Career Education Building on Iowa Central Community College's Fort Dodge campus Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., continues Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and winds up Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The show is sponsored by The Messenger, the Fort Dodge Homebuilders Association and Iowa Central.
Highlighting the expo will be the following special presentations:
Dan Oswald, deconstruction program coordinator at Iowa Central, will be on hand at 11 a.m. Saturday to share his insights on an array of subjects including "harvesting" old buildings.
Katie Kitterman, who is a world-class expert on getting the most out of coupons, will share her wisdom at 1 p.m. Saturday and again at 2:30 p.m.
Jerry Kluver, a gardening guru and host of Hy-Vee's "Get Growing with Jerry Kluver" television show, will share tips at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Throughout the event there will be booths and displays showcasing a wide array of businesses and organizations. This year nearly 70 exhibitors will be on hand, which is a record. There also will be an opportunity to register to win prizes, including a $500 gift card to any of the vendors.
Each year, thousands of people sample this show's many offerings. Get a head start on spring by stopping by Friday or later in the weekend.
