ALGONA - One man was killed and another seriously injured after an early morning accident in Kossuth County Friday.

The accident happened two miles north of Algona on U.S. Highway 169 at 6:20 a.m., according to Lt. Kelly Hindman of the Iowa State Patrol.

Robert Lee Sabin, 56, of Lakota, was driving south on the highway in a 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass.

The other driver, Jeremy Adam Sweeney, 36, of Titonka, was headed north driving a 2000 Dodge Neon.

Sweeney crossed the center line and struck Sabin's car nearly head-on, Hindman said.

Sabin, who needed to be cut out of his car, was pronounced dead at Kossuth Regional Health Center, Algona.

Sweeney was flown by air ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Mason City with what Hindman described as "serious injuries."

There were no passengers in either vehicle.

Hindman said the Iowa State Patrol is still investigating the accident.

The Kossuth County Sheriff's Department, Algona Police Department, Kossuth County Ambulance and Algona Fire Department also responded to the scene.
