Concert will benefit Alzheimer’s Association

April 7, 2013
By JOE SUTTER, lifestyle@messengernews.net , Messenger News

This is the second annual Concert to Remember, founded in honor of local musician and caregiver Dean Morris, who died unexpectedly in 2011.

Morris, a self-taught musician and member of the Ski Band for 30 years, was the sole caregiver to wife Shirley Morris, who is being treated for Alzheimer's disease.

Artwork by Elaine Stacy will be included in the auction that night. All proceeds will go to support the Alzheimer's Association.

"One of the many things it will go for is our toll-free helpline," said Amy Von Bank. "That is 24 hours a day, seven days a week. So if you know someone with the disease, or for questions about the disease, caregiver stress, just finding resources or information, you can call. A live person will answer and walk them through, and help them find the information."

The Association helps caregivers learn about the disease, offers free pamphlets and videos, funds research and advocates for more public support for the disease.

The number is (800) 272-3900. More information is at www.alz.org/greateriowa.
