CLARION - Jason Schluttenhofer will exchange his deputy sheriff's badge for that of the Wright County sheriff as a result of a special election Tuesday.
Schluttenhofer, a Republican, defeated Wright County Chief Deputy Jim Lester, an independent, to win the position.
He won 865 votes, while Lester won 554 votes.
Wright County Auditor Betty Ellis said 1,423 votes were cast.
Schluttenhofer will replace former Sheriff Paul Schultz, who resigned in February after winning reelection to a fourth term in November. The new sheriff will complete Schultz's term, which will expire Dec. 31, 2016.
John Mandal, the county's jail administrator, has served has interim sheriff since Feb. 25. Mandal did not run for sheriff in the special election.
Attempts to contact Schluttenhofer were unsuccessful Tuesday night.
