Area man sentenced ito federal prison

SIOUX CITY - A husband and wife were sentenced to federal prison Wednesday after pleading guilty to robbing banks in northwest Iowa.

Jeffrey A. Schoon, 48, of Pocahontas, was sentenced to 120 months in prison, while his wife, Roxena L. Schoon, 40, formerly of Wall Lake, received 60 months in prison.

The couple pleaded guilty in December to one count of conspiracy to commit bank robberies, one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, and four counts of bank robbery, according to a statement from the U.S. attorney's office, Northern District of Iowa.

The Schoons admitted to robbing the Iowa State Bank in Odebolt on Dec. 29, 2011; Citizens 1st National Bank in Early on Jan. 11, 2012;Westside State Bank in Vail on Jan. 28, 2012; and the Heritage Bank in Lytton on March 23, 2012.

Jeffrey Schoon admitted to robbing the banks, while Roxena Schoon acted as the getaway driver.
