The Domestic/Sexual Assault Outreach center is reporting an increase in the amount of money raised from its annual cake auction compared to last year.
Brenda McBride, D/SAOC's program development director, said the organization is still counting the money raised, but as of Wednesday afternoon the amount was just over $48,000.
"That's about $2,000 more than last year," McBride said.
She attributed the increase to more ideal weather and the work done by volunteers and staff.
"That money will help us out with the shelter," she said. "One hundred percent of the proceeds go to our general fund."
She added the auction was successful thanks to the work of many people.
"I wanted to thank the community for showing up and supporting our cause," McBride said, "and to all our staff and board of directors who put a lot of time and energy into it."
