Cellist Sidney Baker and pianist Bruce Perry will present a free recital at 3 p.m. today at Grace Lutheran Church, 211 S. Ninth St. The program includes sonatas by Johannes Brahms and Edward Lalo.
Baker teaches music-related courses at the Iowa Central Community College campus in Webster City. He also teaches string students privately at his studio in Clarion. Baker previously lived in Asheville, N.C., where he built a career as a soloist, a chamber music musician, and a symphony cellist throughout the southeastern United States. During also he taught at several colleges and universities, and conducted his own youth orchestras. Baker received his bachelor's degree in cello performance at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City and his master's degree, also in cello performance, at the Converse College School of Music in Spartanburg, S.C.
Perry is coordinator of worship and music at Grace Lutheran Church, Fort Dodge, where he directs the Cathedral Choir and Melodibells, as well as serving as worship planner and organist. He conducts the Fort Dodge Choral Society and operates a private studio for singers and pianists. Perry lives in Sac City.
