CARROLL - Brian Murman and Andrew Stover are returning to the state tennis tournament, as the two claimed a Class 2A district doubles runner-up title here Friday.
Murman and Stover cruised into the finals as the No. 2 seed before falling to top-seeded Alex Qin and Tommy Pitcher of Ames in the finals, 6-1, 6-0.
"It was great to see Brian and Andrew qualify for the state tournament in doubles for the second year in a row," FDSH head coach Jared Feddersen said. "They played with tremendous focus and dominated their matches up to the finals."
The Dodger duo earned a bye in the first round before topping a team from Sioux City North, 6-1, 6-0 in the quarterfinals. They proceeded to down Ames' Tim and Sam Lee in the semis, 6-1, 6-2.
Fort Dodge's other doubles team of Seth Dolan and Nathan Moore placed fourth.
In singles, Caleb Hendrickson secured a fourth place finish. Nick Pecka also competed in singles for the Dodgers.
"Caleb, Seth and Nathan showed why they were seeded in their respective draws with some quality wins that helped us secure second place as a team," Feddersen said.
Alex Huang from Ames won the singles title, defeating teammate Andrew Ellis in the finals.
Fort Dodge will host Sioux City North at Dodger courts today in a 2A substate preliminary dual. Action begins at 10 a.m.
