WATERLOO - The Iowa Central baseball team had a huge eighth inning to win its Region XI opener against Ellsworth on Friday.
The Tritons (34-14 overall) scored five runs in the eighth to pull out a 6-4 victory.
They'll now face the winner of the Southeastern and Iowa Lakes game at 7 p.m. in Waterloo.
Fort Dodge graduate Luke Vandermaten picked up the win, going two plus innings with three strikeouts.
Nolan Webster earned his ninth save of the season, pitching out of a ninth inning jam.
Dan Potempawas 2-for-3 with a double.
Matt Molbury was 2-for-4 and Christian Abilia was 2-for-4, including a double.
"We were happy with the eighth,'' said Iowa Central head coach Rick Pederson. "I have to credit our guys. Things weren't going our way and every hard hit ball they caught.''
