HARVARD, Neb. - John Andrew Conway, age 89 years and 361 days of Harvard, NE, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Harvard Rest Haven in Harvard. He was born on May 1, 1923 in Claire, IA to Mr. Edward Aloysius Conway and Bernadett Kay (McKernon) Conway. John played basketball during his high school days at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Fort Dodge, IA. After graduation, John honorably served his country in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific theatre during WWII; he returned home after four years of duty in 1945. In 1946, he married Shirleyanne Messbach in St. Paul, NE and they had two children, Kathleen and David Michael. After that marriage ended, John found the love of his life, Mildred "Millie" Campbell Cantrell, and they were married in March 12, 1967 in Kearney, NE. John and Millie had five children, Kendell, Bryan, Charles, Angelia, and Alicia. In earlier times, John enjoyed playing snare and base drums in the York Drum and Bugle Corps, riding motorcycles, playing golf, and dancing with Millie at the Legion Club on many a Saturday night. More than anything else in his life, John treasured his family and the times when all could be together with him.
