Timely hitting and aggressive baserunning helped the St. Edmond softball team regain its winning form here Wednesday night.

The No. 6 (Class 2A) Gaels (7-2 overall, 3-1 in the league) coasted to a 12-1 five-inning North Central Conference triumph over Clear Lake at Rogers Sports Complex.

Sophomore Jaci Stumpf, senior Allie Oberg and eighth-grader Paige Kinney all delivered a pair of hits for SEHS. Stumpf also stole four bases and scored two runs, while Oberg and Brigid Hanley each came home twice. As a team, the Gaels swiped nine bags - all coming in the first two frames.

"It was really nice to get back on track after Monday (St. Edmond dropped a 5-4 decision at then-No. 9 (3A) Iowa Falls-Alden in its last outing) and get so many girls into the game," SEHS head coach Paul Hunt said. "We like to play a very aggressive style and put pressure on the other teams, which were able to do. Up and down the order, we got contributions from everyone (last night)."

After plating a single tally in their first at-bat, the Gaels erupted for eight scores in the second, sending 12 batters to the dish. During that pivotal stretch, SEHS actually notched five of its runs off two wild pitches and a fielding error by Clear Lake's left fielder.

Starter Katie Donnelly (4-2) posted the win in the circle, yielding no hits and no earned runs over two innings of work. Donnelly walked one and fanned five.
