The Fort Dodge Community School District board approved Monday bids for an irrigation system for the new Fort Dodge middle school football field.
The district received five bids, according to Shane Albrecht, FDCSD construction manager. Albrecht recommended to the board the lowest bid of $19,869 from Iowa Athletic Field Construction Co., of Webster City.
"They are the low bid. They are also the company out there putting in the track in the new middle school," he said. "So this will also help in the management of this project because there won't be two companies out there. It's the same company."
He added, "It should go really well for the district."
Albrecht also informed the board that one bid was thrown out due to "bid irregularities" and not following the district's bid documents.
The base bid irrigates the football field, Albrecht said, while irrigation for the sidelines and endzones were alternate one and alternate covered irrigation for high jump fields.
"We had to have two options there, depending on what we ended up with for a track," he said.
Albrecht received a recommendation for the company, he said, from Jim Winters, Harlan and Hazel Rogers Sports Complex superintendent.
"They used Iowa Athletic Field Construction Company to put in half the stuff out there, for their new diamonds and new ballfields out there," he said. "They had nothing but good things to say about the irrigation. They come out and take care of everybody."
The $19,869 fits in with the district's school construction budget, Albrecht said. Doug Van Zyl, FDCSD superintendent, emphasized the dollars will not be taken from the district's general fund.
