Construction is now underway at the sites of some new businesses along the Fifth Avenue South Corridor of Commerce in Fort Dodge.
At Fifth Avenue South and 21st Street, a chainlink fence surrounds the spot where crews are doing the needed earthmoving to prepare for a new CVS/pharmacy.
Farther east at Fifth Avenue South and 31st Street, construction of a Holiday Inn Express & Suites is finally starting.

Crews work on excavations for foundation footings and underground piping Thursday at the site of the new CVS/pharmacy at Fifth Avenue South and South 21st Street.
And in the 3000 block of Fifth Avenue South, a building that will house two new restaurants is taking shape.
Where the CVS/pharmacy will eventually stand, workers are ''in the very early stages of prepping that site for construction,'' said Mike DeAngelis, the director of public relations for the Rhode Island based drug store chain.
DeAngelis said the store will open in October or November. That's earlier than what was first anticipated. When plans for the store were announced in December, DeAngelis said the company hoped to open it in 2014.
The 13,225 square foot store will occupy the area where the Sun Market and Deli II and Tequila's, a Mexican restaurant, once stood. Those buildings plus two houses on 20th Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues south were demolished to make room for the store.
DeAngelis said the store will employ 20 people in both full-time and part-time positions.
Woodruff Construction, of Fort Dodge, is the general contractor for the project.
Holiday Inn Express & Suites
Plans for the hotel were announced in March 2012, with an anticipated opening date of February of this year.
The initial plans for the hotel called for a four-story building with 85 rooms on what was a farm field in the northwest corner of the intersection of Fifth Avenue South and 31st Street.
It will be be owned by Lamont Companies of Aberdeen, S.D., doing business as Fort Dodge Lodging Group.
Dick Groenewald, a representative of Lamont Companies, couldn't be reached for comment.
The building under construction in the 3000 block of Fifth Avenue South will be the home of Pancheros Mexican Grill and another, yet to be named, restaurant.
Pancheros Mexican Grill will be owned by Fort Dodge restaurantuers Jim Bird and Joe Cain. They own Sports Page Bar & Grill, 2707 N. 15th St.; Olde Boston's Restaurant & Pub, 809 Central Ave.; and Mineral City Mill & Grill, 2621 Fifth Ave. S.
The Mexican eatery is expected to open in October.
Jensen Builders Ltd., of Fort Dodge, is constructing the 4,500 square foot building that will house the restaurants.
