WEBSTER CITY - Behind a dominant pitching performance from Kaitlyn Biere, the Webster City softball team blanked St. Edmond by a 5-0 count Wednesday night in a battle of co-North Central Conference leaders.

Biere, an Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne recruit, went the distance in the circle, allowing just one hit with eight strikeouts. She actually held the Gaels hitless for the first 6 1/3 innings.

"Biere did a great job of keeping (St. Edmond) on their toes and changing speeds," said WCHS head coach Jess Howard. "This was a good win for us. We were strong defensively, and our offense put a lot of pressure on them."

Mikaleh McCoy and Allie Flaws each went 2-for-3 for the 15th-ranked (Class 4A) Lynx (19-6 overall, 13-1 NCC), while McCoy scored two runs and homered. Maddie Anderson and Flaws each added doubles.

Allie Oberg managed the lone hit for the No. 4 (2A) Gaels (18-5, 11-2), who split the season-series against Webster City.

"Kaitlyn was the story of the night," SEHS head coach Paul Hunt said. "We had a few good at-bats, but we just didn't string anything together at all. I thought our defense played really well, though."
