STORY CITY - Timely hitting proved to be the difference for the St. Edmond baseball team on Friday night in a Class 2A district semifinal.

The Gaels (16-13 overall) scored early and tacked on what proved to be the winning run in the top of the seventh inning, earning a 7-6 victory over North Central Conference foe Eagle Grove (9-20).

"We weren't perfect by any means, but a win's a win at tournament time,'' said St. Edmond head coach Joe Shanks. "We got quality at bats against (Eagle pitcher Brennan) Cameron."

St. Edmond will now face Ogden (21-8) on Tuesday in Story City at 5 p.m. The winner will face the winner of the South Hamilton and Clarion-Goldfield contest.

The Gaels opened the contest scoring three runs in the first and adding a run in the second, third and fourth. The potential game-winner proved to be the winner in the top of the seventh.

Eagle Grove scored three in the first and two in the third. The Eagles then made the score 7-6 with one in the bottom of the seventh.
