POCAHONTAS - A Laurens man whom authorities identified as a registered sex offender has been arrested in connection with the sexual assault of a teenager.

Terry D. Teepe, 37, of Laurens, has been charged with two counts of lascivious acts with a child and two counts of third-degree sexual abuse.

In a statement, Pocahontas County Sheriff Bob Lampe said two sexual assault incidents were reported to deputies that involved a 15-year-old girl from Pocahontas County. The incidents were reported on July 9.

The investigation led deputies to arrest Teepe in connection with the case.

Lampe reported that Teepe is being held in the Pocahontas County Jail on $40,000 bond.

According to the Iowa Sex Offender Registry, Teepe was convicted of two counts of indecent contact with a child in 1993, when he was 17 years old. The victim in that case was a girl who was 13 years old or younger. In 2007, Teepe was convicted of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse and second-degree burglary against a girl between the ages of 14 and 17.

Both convictions are from Buena Vista County.

Online court records indicate that in 2003, Teepe was charged with failing to comply with the sex offender registry in Pocahontas County. That charge was later dismissed.
