Arlene Jeanette Rossendahl Chantland, 89, passed away on July 20th at the Algona Good Samaritan Center where she had been a resident since June of 2011. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Interment will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation will be from 4 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Arlene Rosendahl was born on Jan. 21st, 1924 to Gerd and Ecke (Janssen) Rosendahl on a farm North of Rockwell City, IA. She attended school in Bradgate and Gilmore City, IA, graduating from Gilmore City High School in 1942.
She was united in marriage to Fred Johnson on Jan. 27th 1953. The couple made their home in Minneapolis. Two children were born to this union, Mary and Gerd. Fred passed away in June of 1969. Arlene was united in marriage to Clifford Chantland on July 7th, 1973 at Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Arlene lived most of her life in Humboldt, IA where she was involved in many organizations especially Zion Lutheran Church where she worshipped for over 50 years. Arlene taught Sunday School, vacation Bible School and was a member of L.W.M.L. She enjoyed her family and many friends, sports of all kind and went to many girls state basketball tournaments and loved playing BINGO.
Arlene is survived by her son Gerd (Butch) Johnson and wife, Lois of Clive, IA and her daughter Mary Reddeland husband Larry of Wesley, IA. Five grandchildren, Alissa Johnson of Clive, IA David Reddel and wife Jennifer of Ankeny, IA, Ann (Sherwin) Langholdt of Rock Raids, IA, Pam (Gabe) Sojka of Minneapolis, MN and Robert Reddel of Plainview, NE and 12 great-grandchildren. She will be missed by many other friends and relatives. She was preceded death by her parents, her husband Clifford on Feb 15th 2007, sisters Dorothy and Helen, brothers, Arthur, Vernon, Carl and Glenn.
