DAKOTA CITY - Custodians are busy preparing the Humboldt Community School buildings for the new year, school Superintendent Greg Darling said told the Humboldt school board Monday.
"The cleaning is going good. The custodians are right on schedule," he said.
The district has about a dozen custodians, who are removing everything from the rooms, cleaning, and then replacing everything, he said. The lawns are being mowed, the new trees being watered, and the trees along the trails are being trimmed. Board members noted some of the new trees were turning brown because of the current drought.
"The gyms look good, the hallways look good, a lot of hard work," Darling said.
Humboldt's 2013-2014 school year begins Aug. 15.
In other business, the board renewed its insurance contract with EMC Insurance for the 2013-2014 school year.
Darling said the board sought insurance bids a few years ago and EMC was the lowest. The company is the largest insurance service for schools, Darling said.
The district's premium for property and liability insurance went down slightly. Because of the work of administration and staff in creating a safe work environment, the district saved $12,000 in workman compensation coverage, according to Darling.
