No. 6 West Des Moines Dowling denied second-ranked Ankeny's quest for a repeat state title Thursday night.

In a Class 5A semifinal at Rogers Sports Complex, the Maroons (33-11 overall) stunned the defending champions by a 5-0 count.

Junior ace Claudia Farrell (19-6) went the distance in the shutout for Dowling, allowing just four hits. She walked five and fanned seven.

Kaila Konz, Farrell, Kaitlyn Mauk and Alicia Crivaro all collected a pair of hits for the Maroons, who avenged a pair of regular season losses to the Hawkettes. Konz, Crivaro and Meaghan McCarthy each homered for Dowling, which plated two runs in the second, one in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

Emilee Dorpinghaus finished 2-for-3 for Ankeny (33-11), while Olivia Parker and Taylor Steinfeldt both added singles. The Hawkettes, who saw their six-game victory streak halted, were blanked for just the second time this season.

Dowling will now face either No. 3 Ottumwa (37-6) or fifth-ranked Johnston (31-11) in the 5A finals tonight at 7 p.m. on Diamond 1. Ankeny will play the loser between the Bulldogs and Dragons for third place at 5:30 p.m. on Diamond 2.
