Cairney — 60 years

Tom and Phyllis Cairney, Fort Dodge, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary July 18.

Their family includes Kevin and Jody Cairney, Altoona; Kris and Sean Smith, Urbandale; and Kirk and Sheila Cairney, of Fort Dodge. They have four grandchildren.
Tom Cairney and Phyllis Volz were married July 18, 1953, at Minneapolis, Minn. He worked at a produce warehouse for Red & White Food Stores before attending radio school in Minneapolis. The couple moved to Fort Dodge where he worked for KEOK radio station and later started his own restaurant, Tom’s Lunch, in downtown Fort Dodge. He also owned Henry’s Restaurant, and he built Tom Thumb Drive Inn in 1970.
Prior to their marriage she worked as a dental assistant. After their marriage, she became a homemaker.
