Area players named to all-district teams

A total of 27 Messenger-area baseball players were recently selected to the IHSBCA all-district teams.

Fort Dodge senior pitcher Tyler Vaughn (7-4; 2.64 ERA), senior catcher Devon Harms (.279 BA, 36 H, 25 RBI), junior shortstop JC Hatcher (.367, 51 H, 34 RBI), senior third baseman Tommy Halligan (.388, 45 H, 26 RBI), sophomore outfielder Austin Halligan (.386, 51 H, 41 R) and senior utilty pick Keegan Gormally (.388, 40 H, 32 R) were all named to the Class 4A North Central District second squad.

St. Edmond junior outfielder Hank Crimmins (.390 BA, 41 H, 29 RBI) landed on the 2A Central District first team. Emmetsburg's Jake Jackson (.300, 24 H, 24 RBI) was also a first team Northwest District utility pick in 2A, while North Union pitcher Cody Runksmeier (4-3; 1.83 ERA) landed on the second squad.

In 3A, Algona catcher Tyler Frideres (.406, 44 R, 43 H), Humboldt third baseman Ben Jacobson (.451, 37 H, 30 RBI) and outfielder Chris Witzke (.423, 41 H, 27 R) were each chosen to the Central District top team. Making the second squad were shortstop Austin Zylstra (.458, 44 H, 34 RBI) and outfielder Ryan Lee (.337, 34 R, 30 H) both of Humboldt, along with Algona outfielder Clay Collison (.303, 30 H, 28 R).

Bishop Garrigan pitcher Reece Wadle (7-3, 1.17 ERA) was voted to the 1A Northwest District first team, while second baseman Zac Kibby (.366, 41 H, 32 R) and shortstop John Burns (.398, 49 H, 36 R) were nomiated to the second squad for the Golden Bears. Newell-Fonda first baseman Tom Devereaux (.398, 33 H, 23 RBI) and third baseman Jake Hahn (.351, 30 R, 26 H) each received a spot on the second team.

Southeast Webster-Grand's Curt Castenson (.345, 30 H, 23 RBI) and Prairie Valley's Trey Kehoe (.413, 38 H, 28 R) were both tabbed to the 1A central district top squad as utility picks. Earning recognition on the second team were pitcher Mitch Rosendahl (5-2, 2.22 ERA), second baseman Dylan Samuelson (.315, 23 H, 20 R) and third baseman Braden Moser (.362, 34 H, 29 R) all of Manson Northwest Webster, along with Prairie Valley catcher Clayton Taylor (.420, 37 H, 24 RBI) and Southeast Webster-Grand's Tagan Dodson (.340, 33 H, 30 RBI).
