Paul Hunt led the St. Edmond softball team to a sixth-place finish in Class 2A this past season.

For his efforts and that of his players, Hunt was recently named the 2A district coach of the year for the Central region by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.

Along with his own achievement, Gael players Allie Oberg and Maggie Harvey were also placed on the all-district squad in 2A.

Fort Dodge's Mallory Kilian and Lexi Astor, who helped lead the Dodgers to a CIC Northern conference title, were placed on the 5A West squad.

The Gaels advanced to the state tournament for the first time since 2010. Fort Dodge was knocked out by eventual third-place finisher Ankeny in a regional final.

"It's a really nice complement and I am honored to receive the award," Hunt said. "I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with such a dedicated group of girls."
