DES MOINES - An event started by state Rep. Helen Miller, D-Fort Dodge, to educate minority and urban lawmakers from throughout the country about farming issues is underway in Des Moines.
The Urban Ag Academy began Thursday and will continue through Saturday.
''The Urban Ag Academy helps urban and minority legislators understand the value that agriculture adds to our economy and the challenges facing the agricultural community today,'' Miller said in a written statement.
She established the academy three years ago.
About 35 legislators are expected to attend.
