Gannon — 90 years old

EMMETSBURG — John Gannon, of Emmetsburg, will celebrate his 90th birthday Thursday.
Cards may be sent to him at 201 Wallace St., Emmetsburg, IA 50536.
His family includes six children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. His wife of 60 years, Marge, is deceased.
Gannon was born in Varina and graduated from Pocahontas Catholic High School in 1941. He served in China during World War II as a member of the Flying Tigers. After his service, he graduated from Buena Vista College and married Marge in 1950. He then completed his master’s degree from Drake University and began his career as an educator and school administrator. He was superintendent of schools for South Hamilton and Eagle Grove, and in Emmetsburg from 1970 until his retirement in 1988.
