CLARION - A new building that will serve as the headquarters for transit operations in Wright County will be constructed next year.
The structure, to be located in Clarion, will serve as both a bus garage and administration office. It will replace a rented facility, according to Cliff Weldon, the executive director of the Fort Dodge based MIDAS Council of Governments, which operates the bus systems throughout the region.
Buses for both Clarion Area Transit and Wright County Transit will be housed there.
Allers Associates Architects, of Fort Dodge, designed the building. It is estimated to cost $442,000.
The Iowa Transportation Commission on Tuesday awarded a $347,120 grant to MIDAS Council of Governments to cover 80 percent of the facility's cost.
Weldon said a no-interest loan will be sought from the Iowa Department of Transportation to cover half of the remaining cost. The rest of the money will come from the Wright County government, he said.
He said construction is expected to start next spring, and the building should be occupied by next fall.
