LAVONNE JUNE JAMES

Messenger News

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - LaVonne June (Baker) James was born June 29, 1930, to Everett and Nellie (Thompson) Baker in Dunlap, Iowa. She was raised in Dunlap and graduated from the Dunlap High School. On September 28, 1947, LaVonne was united in marriage to Howard James. The couple made their home on a farm near Woodbine, Iowa and were blessed with the birth of four children, Dave, Anita, Bill, and Donn. The family relocated to Somers, Iowa where for over 40 years LaVonne helped in the endeavors of the family farm and was active in many church and community organizations before retiring to the warm south of Rio Hondo, Texas and later living in San Antonio with her son and daughter-in-law before moving to the Amber Oaks Assisted Living Center.

LaVonne loved spending time walking outdoors, sewing, and baking and doing things for everyone in her life to make them feel special. She enjoyed looking up new recipes, new patterns to sew or any new crafts to produce. She was a major participant in her church and her faith: Singing, playing the organ or rallying with the parishioners and community to help with any function. She loved to read and for more than 60 years she kept a diary of each day events. If you needed to know what occurred in the family's day to day events or if had rained two years past, she could tell you. LaVonne spent her life being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

LaVonne went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 10, 2013, at Amber Oaks Assisted Living in San Antonio, Texas after 83 wonderful years.
