The Webster County Board of Supervisors discussed contracts for groundskeeping and maintenance during its meeting Tuesday.

Johnson Controls submitted proposals for weed control, trash pickup and sidewalks at the Webster County Courthouse, Law Enforcement Center, Social Service Building and Northwest Bank Building and for snow removal at the bank building for $2,600 per month for one year.

The board discussed if services at some buildings could be seasonal rather than year-round or performed just two days per week to help save costs.

"I would be more likely to be in favor of a six month timeframe than a 12 month," Supervisor Clark Fletcher said.

"I'm not sure that we need to spend this kind of money for year round," Supervisor Merrill Leffler said.

The board discussed if the additional services could be seasonal on a six- or eight-month basis excluding the months of December through March, and approved a seasonal contract beginning Sept. 1 for $2,600 per month. Beginning in 2014, the contract for services will run from April through November.

In other business, the board approved the appointment of Darren Driscoll, Janece Valentine and Bennett O'Connor to three year terms on the Civil Service Commission effective Aug. 15.
