ROLFE - The former nursing home in Rolfe will be dramatically reshaped by its new owner.
Chris Breon, who's now living in the old Rolfe Care Center, plans to separate the central portion of the building from the two wings and move it to Boone, where it will become his home.
The east and west wings of the structure will remain in place. Six condominiums will be created in them, he said. Most of the condos will be two-bedroom units.

Chris Breon poses in front of the former Rolfe Care Center. He purchased the building from Rolfe Betterment Inc. His plans include removing the central part of the building to become his home and turning the east and west wings into condominiums.
He said he's trying to get all of the work done by the end of this fall.
Breon, doing business as Chris Breon Development LLC, purchased the site from Rolfe Betterment Inc. about three months ago for an undisclosed sum.
The nursing home closed in June 2011. At about the same time, its owner, Careage Management LLC, of Sioux City, was purchased by The Ensign Group Inc., of Mission Viejo, Calif. That company wasn't interested in the site because it housed fewer than 50 people.
Rolfe Betterment Inc. obtained the property in December 2011. Members of the Rolfe Lions Club maintained it while it was vacant.
Breon described it as "too good of a structure to let go." He said the nursing home was built 1966.
When he purchased the building, it still contained beds, dressers, wheelchairs and other institutional supplies. Breon has prepared some of that material for shipment to the Philippines.
