Sgt. Wes Niles, of the Iowa State Patrol, fills out an accident report while examining a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire that was involved in an accident Wednesday morning. According to ISP Trooper Kyle Kluender, a Pederson Sanitation truck, driven by Dwayne Pederson, 76, was backing out of the driveway at 2010 Nathan Blvd. around 8:21 a.m. At the same time, the Sunfire, driven by Robert Fisher, 57, of Fort Dodge, was coming around a curve. Fisher told investigators that the sun got into his eyes and he was temporarily blinded when he crashed into the back of the stopped truck. Kluender said Fisher needed to be extracted from the vehicle before being transported to Trinity Regional Medical Center. He was then flown to Des Moines with what Kluender described as “serious neck issues.” Pederson was not injured. The Webster County Sheriff’s Department, Moorland Fire Department and Fort Dodge Fire Department responded to the scene.
