ALGONA - The Algona McDonald's restaurant, 1321 Highway 169 N., which shares a lot in front of Big Kmart, is due to undergo a rebuild from the ground up which will update the restaurant's kitchen, dining area and outside appearance.

The restaurant was closed Wednesday, which kicked off a three-month construction period.

The McDonald's has been a fixture in Algona for 34 years.

"It definitely brings back memories to think of rebuilding this place," said Corey Kasch, McDonald's owner/operator. "There are some sentimental feelings for me in this transition, but I am looking forward to the future in giving the town, our customers and our employees a state-of-the-art, contemporary new McDonald's."

While the Algona McDonald's location is closed, employees have been offered the opportunity to work in any of the other seven Kasch-owned McDonald's locations. Kasch also owns McDonald's restaurants in Fort Dodge, Cherokee, Emmetsburg, Estherville, Okoboji and Webster City.

Sue McEnroe, general manager of the Algona McDonald's, said she is most excited for the new double drive-through lanes and the new digital menu boards that customers will use to order from inside the restaurant.

"I am really looking forward to giving our customers a fun, new McDonald's dining experience," said McEnroe. "Everything about the store will be upgraded and make for fast service and more convenience for the customers and the restaurant staff."

McEnroe has been employed in the Kasch organization for 32 years, starting out as a crew person mopping floors and operating the fryers, and working her way up the ranks to general manager where she has been employed since 1984.

The Algona McDonald's was built in February 1979 under owner/operator Doug Kasch -Corey Kasch's father - who moved with wife Pat and three sons to Algona from Rapid City, S.D., to operate his McDonald's franchise.
