Schilling — 90 years old

Richard (Dick) Schilling, of Fort Dodge, formerly of Kanawha, will celebrate his birthday with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday in the central community room at the Belmond Community Apartments, at 116 Luicks Lane, Belmond.

His family includes wife Sharon; Janice Rowray, Waterloo; Steve and Pam Schilling, Palatine, Ill.; Lori and Rick Nielson, Rochester, Minn.; and Joy and Dave Halfpap, Clear Lake.
Schilling was born on a farm near Jolley on Sept. 23, 1923. As a young man, he moved to the Kanawha area where he graduated from Corwith High School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and worked briefly for Bell Aircraft, in Buffalo, N.Y., before returning to the Kanawha area where he farmed for many years.
