On Sunday, dozens of the most outstanding high school seniors in the region were honored during the 21st Annual Youth Salute Recognition Ceremony.
Many of the names read aloud at Iowa Central Community College's Bioscience and Health Sciences Auditorium will, no doubt, become familiar in the years to come, as these young people become the leaders of tomorrow.
The National Council on Youth Leadership Youth Salute program honors outstanding high school seniors who maintain a high scholastic average and have demonstrated leadership ability in church, school and community. This program has been placed on the National Advisory List of Contests and Activities by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
Students who are selected for NCYL go through a first-round interview with a panel of community members to be considered for the finalist nomination.
Local Youth Leaders of the Year will attend the Town Meeting on Tomorrow at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., during which they will join young people from throughout the nation to discuss problems and potential solutions.
The Messenger congratulates 2013's NCYL Youth Leaders. We look forward to following your accomplishments in the years to come.
