Gaels move into Top-10

Four other area football teams ranked

Five Messenger-area teams are ranked in the this week's Associated Press prep poll.

St. Edmond (4-0, 2-0) jumped into the Class 1A poll at No. 9. The Gaels are coming off a 35-0 victory over Pocahontas Area.

This week, the Gaels will face 11th-ranked Ridge View (4-0, 2-0).

In 3A, both Humboldt (4-0, 2-0) and Webster City (4-0, 2-0) are still rated.

The Wildcats are No. sixth, moving up two spots.

Humboldt will travel to face fifth-ranked Clear Lake (4-0, 2-0) this Friday. The Lynx remain 10th and will travel to Algona (1-3, 0-2) on Friday.

In eight-man, both Newell-Fonda (4-0, 2-0) and West Bend-Mallard (5-0, 2-0) are ranked.

The Mustangs are third and received one first place vote. Newell-Fonda will host Laurens-Marathon (2-2, 1-1) on Friday.

The Wolverines head to North Iowa (3-1, 1-1).

Bishop Garrigan is the only other area squad receiving votes.

West Des Moines Dowling remains the top team in 4A and split the No. 1 votes with Cedar Rapids Xavier.

In 3A, Sioux City Heelan is No. 1.

Carroll Kuemper (6), Waukon (4) and Spirit Lake (4) are the top teams in 2A. Kuemper is No. 1.

Iowa City Regina (1A), West Lyon (A) and Don Bosco (eight-man)?are the other No. 1 schools.
