Six area high school seniors have been chosen to attend the Town Meeting on Tomorrow, a leadership experience sponsored by the National Council on Youth Leadership and Washington University in St. Louis.
Those selected by the local NCYL Youth Salute to attend are: Casey McEvoy, St. Edmond High School; Andrew Stover and Ayenna Cagaanan, Fort Dodge Senior High; Rebecca Nilles, Prairie Valley High School; Zachary Parle, Humboldt High School; and John Maubach, Webster City High School.
Youth Salute recognizes outstanding seniors. It also involves them in seminars and workshops specifically designed to further develop their leadership skills.
The nominees must have been elected to a leadership position and have at least a "B" average. Students are nominated not only on grades, but also on leadership in school activities, religious organizations or activities in their community.
Each student is asked to complete an application and answer three out of four essay questions.
Community leaders interview the nominees throughout the spring and summer months.
This year's TMOT conference will be held Oct. 19-22 in St. Louis. For four days, outstanding student leaders from high schools across the country interact with civic and business leaders and participate in dynamic workshops and discussions. In addition, they may compete for national scholarships and awards.
