STRATFORD - A man accused of setting himself and his stepson on fire in September is scheduled to stand trial in Hamilton County in December.
David A. Lundberg, 43, of Stratford, had his trial scheduled for Dec. 3 after pleading not guilty on Monday. He was charged with first-degree arson, willful injury, reckless use of fire and domestic abuse assault.
On Sept. 24, Hamilton County sheriff's deputies were called to 807 Moore St. after receiving a report of a man who had been drinking and was trying to leave. As deputies responded, they received information that the man, later identified as Lundberg, poured gasoline around himself and the garage, according to a press release from the sheriff's office.
Criminal complaints filed against Lundberg say his stepson, Dakota Buse, tried to stop Lundberg from lighting the fuel. Lundberg allegedly shoved his stepson and "pour(ed) gasoline upon Dakota Buse and ignited it with a cigarette lighter."
Buse, who received second- and third-degree burns over 40 percent of his body, was airlifted to the Iowa Burn Unit in Iowa City after being initially taken to Van Diest Medical Center.
Lundberg is being held on a $250,000 bond.
