Fort Dodge head girls swim coach Rosie Ellendson knew facing Marshalltown would be a daunting task.

Nevertheless, Ellendson was pleased with the results she saw from her squad on Tuesday night.

The Bobcats, who return several state qualifiers, earned a 135-50 victory.

Picking up the lone Dodger victory on the night was Elli Russell, who clocked a time of 28.;51 to claim the 50 free.

"Elli really had a nice swim," Ellendson said. "It was great to see us go 1-2 in the 50 (Lauren Underwood finished second to Russell).

"We knew that going in, Marshalltown would be a tough opponent, but our girls continued to drop times and that's what we like to see."

Along with Underwood's runner-up finish, Catilyn Goebel was second in the 100 fly (1:11.91) and Russell scored silver in the 100 back (1:16.07).

Holly Stockdale, swimming the 200 individual medley for the first time this year, placed third, while Alyssa Nehring and Underwood did the same in the 100 back and 100 breaststroke.

"I just can't say enough about these six seniors," Ellendson said. "They have been with me all four years and are just incredible leaders and swimmers.

"It's rare to see kids stick it out for four years, especially in swimming, and I'm so proud of them."

The six seniors are Jenifer Bentz, Allie Boswell, Erika Farr, Nehring, Shay Saathoff and Underwood.

Fort Dodge's 200 medley relay of Russell, Lehr Thorson, Goebel and Gretta Leigh placed third, as did the 200 free relay of the same quartet.

In junior varsity action, the 200 free relay of Rachel Rethwisch, Rebecca Stieg, Mary O'Connell and Ryann Dawson placed first to lead the Dodgers.

Ellendson also wanted to express her thanks to assistant coaches Christie Gruber and Shawn Russell, who have "worked so hard, especially with our divers, to help these girls out.

"They are two excellent assistant coaches," she said.
