A Fort Dodge man who was accused of sexually assaulting a child has pleaded guilty to three charges in connection to the case.

Christopher T. Edwards, 35, made the guilty pleas Monday afternoon in Webster County District Court.

Edwards' pleas were part of a plea agreement in which his original charge of second-degree sexual abuse was amended to three counts of third-degree sexual abuse.

Under questioning from his attorney, Joseph McCarville, Edwards admitted to sexually assaulting a girl, who was described in court documents as being "under the age of 12," on Feb. 20.

"Do you agree that you had sexual contact ... that she did not want?" McCarville asked Edwards.

"Yes," Edwards said.

He went on to admit his guilt to three specific sexual acts.

"That was not with her permission and against her will?" McCarville asked his client.

"Yes," Edwards said.

As part of the plea agreement, Edwards faces a sentence of up to 30 years in prison.

Before Judge Kurt Stoebe accepted Edwards' guilty pleas, he informed the defendant that because he was pleading guilty to a sex offense, Edwards would face additional penalties besides going to prison.

"You would be considered a sex offender who would require lifetime registration with the sheriff," Stoebe told Edwards.

He added that Edwards also faces restrictions when it comes to where he is allowed to live.

Stoebe set Edwards' sentencing for Dec. 16.
