Christensen wins district title

EAGLE GROVE - Tiffany Christensen earned her third straight individual district title at a Class 1A meet Thursday night.

Eagle Grove's third-ranked senior and defending state bronze medalist clocked a winning mark of 15:09. Des Moines Christian's Oksana Covey (16:24) was a distant second.

This will be the fourth time that Christensen has qualified for state.

As a sophomore she placed seventh and as a freshman, she was 60th.

In the team race, the Eagles placed fourth with 134 points. No. 10 South Hamilton (69), 15th-ranked North Iowa (99) and Mason City Newman (116) each moved on.

Three Bulldogs advance

CARROLL - The Algona girls advanced three individuals from a Class 3A district meet on Thursday.

No. 17 Tangy Wiseman (3rd, 15:57), Morgan Van Zante (9th, 16:48) and Carissa Pityer (10th, 16:51) all punched state tickets for the Bulldogs.

Algona finished fourth in the team standings with 94 points. Seventh-ranked Spencer (40), No. 2 MOC-Floyd Valley (49) and Sioux City Heelan led the way. Webster City (180) settled for sixth.

No. 1 Bethany Dyskstra of MOC-Floyd Valley grabbed individual gold in a time of 15:38.

No. 1 Indians move on

HAWARDEN - Behind a balanced team effort, the top-ranked Pocahontas Area girls captured a 1A district crown.

The Indians recorded just 24 points. No. 9 Emmetsburg (42) and Sibley-Ocheyedan (110) were the other qualifiers.

Fifth-ranked Grace Meyer (2nd, 15:51), No. 22 Faith Meyer (3rd, 16:19), Elle Ruffridge (4th, 16:37) and Rose Meyer (6th, 16:49) were the standouts for Pocahontas Area.

Ashley Overberg (5th, 16:39), Tara Harris (7th, 16:59) and Mikki Mundus (8th, 17:06) anchored the E-Hawks.

No. 1 and defending state runner-up Leah Seivert (14:36) of Sibley-Ocheyedan earned individual gold.

No. 8 Wildcats advance

WINTERSET - The eighth-ranked Humboldt girls secured a Class 3A district title on Thursday.

The Wildcats registered 67 points. No. 11 Winterset (81) and Dallas Center-Grimes (97) were second and third.

No. 8 Sam Larson (2nd, 14:40), 24th-ranked Maddie Kampen (4th, 15:06) and Sophia Luu (10th, 15:27) led Humboldt's lineup.

Ballard's No. 5 Abby Kohut-Jackson (14:32) was the individual winner.

Titans are in

ORANGE CITY - The South Central Calhoun girls advanced to state with a third-place performance at a 2A district meet.

The 12th-ranked Titans notched 65 points. No. 1 Unity Christian (48) and Western Christian (60) paced the field. East Sac County (385) was 14th.

Mady Dick (5th, 15:41) and 28th-ranked Sydney Batz (9th, 15:51) were South Central Calhoun's top runners. No. 3 Kassidy DeJong of Unity Christian was the individual champion in a time of 15:06.

Greene County qualifies

PANORA - The 13th-ranked Greene County girls qualified for state with a runner-up effort at a Class 2A district meet.

The Rams posted 84 points. No. 8 Panorama (63) was the winner, while North Polk (89) checked in third.

Allison Higgins, ranked 11th, claimed an individual crown for Greene County in a time of 15:45.
