Eagles move on
EAGLE GROVE - The Bishop Garrigan and Eagle Grove boys cross country teams each punched state tickets at a Class 1A district meet on Thursday.
The Golden Bears (113) placed second, while the host Eagles (130) were third. Second-ranked West Fork (64) was the winner.
Counters for Eagle Grove were Noah Stephas (4th, 16:54.72), Carter Asche (12th, 17:30.42), Austin Weland (22nd, 18:02.49), Colton Pickering (46th, 19:00.47) and Brett Maier (51st, 19:06.18).
Tony Kollasch (5th, 16:55.34), Zach Kollasch (16th, 17:41.19), Nick Bronk (23rd, 18:03.85), Tyler Schnurr (30th, 18:23.62) and Mark Fakler (44th, 18:57.92) comprised Garrigan's lineup.
Manson Northwest Webster's Jack Walstrom (7th, 16:55.94) and Alex Dangelser (8th, 16:58.52) both qualified individually.
West Fork's No. 3 Peyton Twedt (16:44.53) took home gold.
The 35th annual co-ed state cross country meet is set for Nov. 2 at Fort Dodge's Lakeside Golf Course inside Kennedy Park.
CARROLL - The fourth-ranked Algona boys qualified for state with a runner-up showing at a Class 3A district meet.
The Bulldogs tallied 48 points. No. 2 Boone (32) was the winner. Webster City (199) finished sixth.
No. 20 Bo Hjelle (4th, 17:04) and Peter Hollinger (8th, 17:27) anchored Algona. Boone's defending state champion and No. 2 Chandler Austin (15:46) was the decisive champion, followed by top-ranked teammate Albert Meier (16:32).
WINTERSET - Michael Bowden will run at the state cross country meet for Humboldt.
Bowden, a senior, finished eighth at a Class 3A district meet on Thursday, recording a time of 17:33.
Perry's fifth-ranked Atem Akuk (16:24) and Ballard's No. 29 Luke Kohut-Jackson (16:47) led the way.
In the team race, the Wildcats were sixth with 147 points. Ninth-ranked Harlan (63), Dallas Center-Grimes (96) and Creston (103) all advanced.
Titans reach state meet
ORANGE CITY - The South Central Calhoun boys will head to state after a runner-up Class 2A district effort on Thursday.
The Titans posted 96 points. Host Unity Christian (58) earned top honors. East Sac County (240) was 10th.
Ryan Daisy (3rd, 16:53) led the way for South Central Calhoun. Spirit Lake's Tammer Goetsch (16:17) claimed individual gold.
Grandstaff moves on
HAWARDEN - Emmetsburg's Nick Grandstaff qualified for state, placing fifth individually at a Class 1A district meet.
Grandstaff, a sophomore, clocked a time of 18:10. Trinity Christian's Alex Van Ginkel (17:44) and West Lyon's Micah Bajema (17:44) were first and second.
No. 4 Trinity Christian (54), Maple Valley-Anthon-Oto (89) and Alta-Aurelia (94) all moved on. Emmetsburg (203) settled for fifth, while Pocahontas Area (271) was 11th.
