Like usual, the perennial power Iowa Central women's cross country team put on quite a show at the NJCAA Div. I Region XI Championships here Saturday at Lakeside Golf Course.

For a 10th straight year, the second-ranked Tritons earned top honors, compiling just 18 points. No. 16 Iowa Western (63) and North Iowa Area (76) were a distant second and third once again.

Hannah Maina of Iowa Central received individual gold, clocking a time of 18:18. Teammate Aden Alemu (18:40) settled for a runner-up effort. Fort Dodge Senior High graduate Tara Jackson (4th, 18:58), Cecilia David (5th, 19:09) and Lindsay Roberts (6th, 19:17) rounded out the Triton counters.

Maina was voted Region XI Female Athlete of the Meet, as well, while also being named to the first team all-region along with Alemu, Jackson and David.

In addition, Lindsay Roberts, Kim Carter (7th, 19:20) and Lauren Roberts (8th, 19:23) landed on the all-region second squad for Iowa Central. Honorable mention all-region nominees were Lindsey Buddenberg (13th, 20:24), former Fort Dodge prep Amberly Habhab (18th, 21:31), Rae Heim (23rd, 21:50), Michelle Zikes (24th, 21:53) and Taijonah Wiggins (25th, 21:56).

"I was extremely pleased with our performance, and we had several (personal records)," ICCC head coach Dee Brown said. "Both of our teams ran real well and competed hard. Our usual suspects basically (led the way). We had a gameplan going in and we executed it perfectly. Outside of a NIACC kid having just an amazing race (Hannah Palmeter of the Trojans placed third overall in 18:48), everything pretty much went how we expected it to."

Petrene Plummer (9th, 19:49) was the top finisher for the runner-up Reivers.

Following the event, Brown was tabbed Region XI Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year for an eighth straight season.

With the victory, the Tritons have now won every Region XI title they have competed for. Seeking their third consecutive national crown and fifth since 2007, Iowa Central will run here again on Nov. 9 at the NJCAA Div. I National Championships. Start time is set for noon.

Last fall, the Tritons tallied only 40 points at the national meet and boasted five All-Americans.
