The Fort Dodge Community School District board approved Monday a districtwide garbage pickup and disposal agreement.
The district received bids from two companies: Pederson Sanitation, of Fort Dodge; and Walters Sanitary Inc., of Boone.
Pederson placed the lowest bid, of $1,917.95 per month, with $20 additional on-call garbage service per receptacle and $370 additional on-call compactor service per container.
Bids were due to the district by Oct. 21, according to Travis Filloon, FDCSD director of buildings and grounds.
"Walters Sanitary has been doing it for several years prior to this. The low bid this time was from Pederson Sanitation," Filloon said. "I have no reason to believe they won't be able to perform as quality a work as Walters has done for us."
Filloon recommended Pederson Sanitation to the board.
The agreement is for a three-year time frame beginning Friday and ending Oct. 31, 2016.
The district will not need to make any changes or new purchases with the new agreement, Filloon said.
"We do own all of our own Dumpsters, so there won't be anything new that we need to do," he said. "They don't take them back. We don't have to purchase anything new."
Filloon assured the board Pederson will be able to meet the district's needs.
"They are able to do the compactor. That's a new process for us within the district, out at the middle school," he said. "They're agreeable to the terms of the agreement they have signed."
The board approved the bid unanimously.
