Nine students from Fort Dodge Community Schools were recently selected to participate in the 28th annual Opus Honor Choir Festival. They are:
Sixth Grade Choir: Alaina Porter and Owen Wooster, Fort Dodge Middle School; Seventh-Eighth Grade Treble Choir: Hannah Gebers, Taylor Hartley, Brienna Evans, Beth Murman and Courtney Cordle, Fort Dodge Middle School;
Seventh-Eighth Grade Bass Choir: Landon Getting, Fort Dodge Middle School; and Ninth Grade Choir: Hannah Amhof - Fort Dodge Senior High.
More than 3,300 were nominated by their directors for 720 positions in the four Opus Honor Choirs. Selections were made by means of a recorded audition.
"Students chosen to be a part of Opus Honor Choir represent the top 20 percent of singers in the state of Iowa," said Joan Ascherl, vocal music instructor at Fort Dodge Middle School. "To be chosen is not only a wonderful learning experience, but a great honor for the singer, director and the school."
The 2013 Opus Honor Choirs will perform at 4 p.m. Nov. 21 in C.Y. Stephens Auditorium in the Iowa State Center, Ames. The Opus Honor Choir Festival is under the auspice of the Iowa Choral Directors Association Inc.
