As a Fort Dodge native, Troy Schroeder has seen a lot of changes in his hometown's downtown business district though the years. When he was ready to take his Memories in Focus photography studio to the next level this year, he knew Fort Dodge's revitalized downtown was the place he wanted to be.
"My business had grown too big for an in-home operation, both with space and creativity," said Schroeder, who opened Memories in Focus more than six years ago. "I was excited to open a storefront business downtown on Nov. 1 of this year."
Historic downtown Fort Dodge inspires Schroeder, who has long been intrigued by the community's rich heritage. "My photography career grew from my interest in pictures of the past. Something about these images spoke to me, whether they were portraits or pieces of art. I wanted to be able to capture those types of memories, as well."
Memories in Focus, which is now located downtown near The Cheesecake Lady's shop, allows Schroeder to photograph a wide range of subjects, including families, children, seniors, weddings, pets, commercial projects and more. "My niche is anything in front of my lens," said Schroeder, who looks forward to expanding his business in downtown Fort Dodge.
"My wife and I love downtown, from the history and the architecture to the feeling of family that exists among the businesses here. We are extremely excited to be part of downtown Fort Dodge's future."
