Traffic stop attempt leads to charges

ROLFE - What started as an attempted traffic stop has led to a Rolfe couple's arrest on several drug charges.

Pennie Lewis, 44, and Eric Minard, 39, are facing several charges in connection with possessing marijuana and methamphetamine.

According to Pocahontas County Sheriff Bob Lampe, a deputy tried to pull over Lewis on Saturday for a traffic offense. Instead of stopping, Lampe said Lewis continued driving until she reached her home and got out of her vehicle.

Deputies went with Lewis into her house so she could get her vehicle registration, according to Lampe. Once inside, Lampe said deputies found narcotics "in plain view."

Lewis and Minard, her boyfriend, were both arrested and taken to the Pocahontas County Jail.

After obtaining a search warrant, deputies found even more drugs inside the house. Lewis and Minard are each facing charges of keeping a house where drugs are used, possession of marijuana, possesion of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. In addition, Lewis is facing charges of driving while barred and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

Both are being held in the Pocahontas County Jail.

Wall Lake man faces drug charge

SAC CITY - A team effort by two law enforcement agencies has led to the arrest of a Wall Lake man on a drug charge.

Sac City Police Chief John Thomsen said in August, his department teamed up with the Lake View Police Department to conduct a drug investigation. During that investigation, Thomsen said, Ralph J. Freese, of Wall Lake, sold meth to an informant who was working with law enforcement.

Freese has now been charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

Thomsen said the investigation is ongoing, and more charges are likely.

Des Moines man charged in Sac Co.

SAC CITY - After a two-month investigation, a Des Moines man has been charged in connection with several burglaries and thefts in Sac County.

Terry L. Randol, 58, is accused of taking part in burglaries that led to about $50,000 in stolen property being taken from homes in three counties.

According to Sac County Sheriff Ken McClure, the investigation into Randol began on Oct. 18, after two suspects were arrested near Iowa Falls driving a stolen truck from Sac County. After interviewing the suspects, McClure said investigators went to an apartment complex in Urbandale where they searched a garage.

"During the search an estimated $50,000 worth of stolen property was recovered from Sac County, Crawford County and Ida County," McClure said.

Randol is now facing three counts of third-degree burglary, two counts of second-degree theft and one count of ongoing criminal conduct.

McClure said all the burglaries and thefts happened along the Sac and Crawford County lines in the southwest portion of Sac County. Investigators are working to see if Randol has any connections to other unsolved crimes in the area.

McClure asked anyone who has not reported a theft of tools to law enforcement should contact their local agencies.

"We have a lot of unclaimed property," he said. "If you have it marked in a special way or if you have serial numbers, we can get the property returned to the rightful owners."
