The Fort Dodge Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened on New Year's Day.

At 9 p.m., officers responded to 2648 Fourth Ave. N. after receiving a report of shots fired. Officers arrived to discover the apartment had been hit by a bullet and entered apartment No. 3.

Michelle Leith, 40, the unit's resident, said she heard shots fired and described a "projectile" coming through the west wall of her living room, passing through a second wall and finally stopping inside her microwave.

Nobody was hurt in the shooting.

Assistant Police Chief Kevin Doty said investigators don't believe the apartment complex was the intended target, and they also don't believe it's connected to a series of shootings on Christmas Eve.

In addition to the apartment, a 2007 Ford F-250 Super Duty truck, belonging to Blake Peterson, 20, was hit during the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Fort Dodge Police Department at 573-1426 or Webster County Crime Stoppers at 573-1444. Tips can also be sent online at wccrimestoppers.com or by texting "LEC" and the tip to 274637.
