Lynx top Wildcats

on the mats

WEBSTER CITY - The Webster City wrestling team honored fallen teammate Brandon Jessen here Thursday night, defeating Humboldt to complete a North Central Conference triangular.

Earlier in the night, the Lynx fell to Clear Lake, but rebounded to top the Wildcats.

Humboldt earned a victory over the Lions in the other dual.

Jessen, who suffered a fractured C1 vertebra last month during the Don Miller Invitational in Fort Dodge, had a fundraiser in his honor to help with medical costs. He will not require surgery, but will have to wear a neck and chest brace for three months.

In a battle of ranked wrestlers, Dylan Fielder of Webster City downed Humboldt's Reed Dreyer, 3-2. Fielder is ranked fifth at 195 pounds, while Dreyer is second.

The dual between the Lions and Lynx came down to bonus points, as Webster City won eight of the 14 matches, but Clear Lake netted 17 points points.

All three teams have matching 4-1 NCC marks.
